Programming Description
This course focuses on the Grade 9 and 10 Family Studies curriculum, a multidisciplinary subject encompassing fashion and housing, food and nutrition, general family studies and raising/caring for children. You will learn to instruct students in theoretical perspectives and practical research related to individual and family development. The emphasis is on planning and implementing culturally responsive, inclusive and accessible programming and assessment that supports all learners and reflects contemporary family realities.Learner Outcomes
By the end of this course you will:
- apply ethical and professional standards in practice
- design inclusive and culturally responsive Family Studies programming
- utilize diverse instructional strategies (UDL, DI, experiential, inquiry)

Notes
TIME COMMITMENT: As required by the Ontario College of Teachers all additional qualification courses are 125 hours. This time allotment includes ongoing and active participation in the online discussion area and the completion of readings, assignments and tasks.
OSAP Eligibility: This course qualifies for OSAP funding as a micro-credential.
Prerequisites
1. OCT MEMBERSHIP confirming you are an OCT member with an undergraduate degree.
2. UNDERGRADUATE/GRADUATE UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPT(S)
Your transcript(s) must show: The equivalent of 2.0 full undergraduate/graduate credits related to the family. Courses from many disciplines are acceptable (i.e., Psychology, Sociology, Child & Youth Studies, Women's Studies, Gender Studies, Health, Fashion, etc.).
